Engineering

Universal Engineering’s 53 year long history has seen the firm expand its market penetration and develop its diversity into new markets.

Our mission is simply:

To be a World Class Technology Provider

Originally formed in 1957, our core business remains precision engineering. However, the complex asymmetric environment of the 21st Century and the changed economic circumstances bring new challenges into the defence and manufacturing sectors which have traditionally underpinned Universal’s outputs.

Acquired by the Bland Group of Companies in late 2009, we design and manufacture components and assemblies into safety critical environments such as civil and military aviation, armoured land vehicles, sub-sea oil, gas and the nuclear industry.

CNC Machining

These items may range from complex and fragile miniature assemblies through to robust submersible units designed to survive and operate on the seabed for up to 25 years.

The Company has expanded its capabilities in all areas and has now developed its range of services from manufacturing individual components through to supplying complete assemblies and complex vehicle systems. We have invested in the very latest manufacturing technology in order to ensure competitiveness and capability.

Universal Engineering has enjoyed sustained growth which has enabled the expansion of employment opportunities at its facilities in South Dorset. We pride ourselves on our flexibility, responsiveness and agility to operate in niche markets.

Engineering

Innovation is fundamental to our success and the new RANGER hybrid armoured vehicle exemplifies our attitude towards creativity, research and development.

Designed and produced in just 12 months from the decision to commit private venture funding to the programme, the vehicle represents the next generation of mine resistant armour protected vehicles required to win on the 360° hybrid battlefield.

Designed to save lives and protect against the lethal effect of IEDs, RANGER also provides outstanding operational and tactical mobility, enabling forces to execute manoeuvre and regain the initiative against a determined and often fanatical enemy.
